The ballet began with my collaboration with the Coalition Against Trafficking in Women and takes inspiration FBI agent Julian Sher’s book “Somebody’s Daughter”.  To my cousins’ daughter, Kimberly Antonakis, who was kidnapped and burnt alive, I dedicate this work.  And to the many who are part of the 800,000 victims of human trafficking enslaved today in the third largest growing criminal business in the world today.

The creation and presentation of Butterflies and Demons is made possible with public funding, in part, by the National Endowment for the Arts, and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, and the New York State Council on the Arts, with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature, and with the generous support of The Harkness Foundation for Dance.
